In 2004, Adidas released the all-new Adidas F50 football boots to compete with the Nike Mercurial Vapor range. The first Adidas F50 shoe, which features a soft kangaroo leather upper and hides the laces for a larger hit zone, has little in common with the modern 2015 Adidas F50 Adizero football boot. The name of the Adidas F50 (Football 50) shoes was inspired by football (F) and the 50th anniversary of Germany's 1954 World Cup title.
Completely black boots, with just a bright yellow flourish - this was different for Adidas. In fact, the three stripes were just on the top where the tongue would be.
Except there was no tongue. There were barely laces on the original F50s: they were tucked away at the top. That made for a larger strike zone, while the instep was a different material, just like the Predator.
The Upper:
- A leather upper and lace cover was used near the front of the boots
- Towards the back and sides, Adidas introduced a mesh design that featured a ribcage like plastic element along the sides
- The new mesh like material was very lightweight and designed to be the newest innovation in Adidas speed boots at the time
The OG F50 TRX remains an iconic boot from the 2000s, with that famous webbing design
- The lace cover included a velcro strap to keep your laces secure and for a locked down fit
